Now we are one
M turned one while we were on vacation. We planned to have a party with family and friends on the Cape today, but ended up heading back to NJ on Thursday because of Hurricane Earl. (Which turned out to be only slightly more than a stiff breeze... *grumble*) I'm a bit bummed that he didn't have a first birthday party, but I know he won't remember it. Instead, J and I got our favorite pizza and a little cake. M liked gnawing on the pizza, but wasn't so sure about the cake! It was pretty wonderful to be home with my boys.
So, happy birthday my precious little boy! I really can't believe that it's been a whole year since a became your mama. It's been an incredible 12 months and I love you more and more every day.

Baby vs. Hummus (the video!)
Note to self: buy more hummus...
(Note how M offers me a taste at the end. Sweet, but kinda gross.)

Challenges of Childrearing
This morning at breakfast I gave M slices toast with jam, strips of chicken sausage and fruit. A yummy little breakfast for a growing boy. And a bit of a treat, because I don't usually give him such salty food. He took one look at it and then systematically dropped each piece over the edge of his highchair tray and onto the floor. For some reason I found it absolutely hilarious. Something about his serious expression or perhaps it was because it was 6am and my sweet boy woke me up at 4am... It was so hard not to laugh, but I was afraid if I laughed, he would know I was laughing at his actions and then dropping food would become even more of a game. I know he's just exploring, but I would rather this not become an every meal occurrence. I've learned my lesson, he gets annoyed if we don't play "so big" at the start of every meal. It was cute at first, but it can get a wee bit tiresome. *grin* So, I bit my lip, laughed in my head and gave M extra kisses for his cuteness after I wiped him down.
I love being this little boy's mama!

Letter to my boy...
Dear little Mr. M,
This morning you woke up way too early - 5:00 am - so, we had an early breakfast.
My darling little man, so far you are not a huge fan of solid food, either purees or actual solids. Unfortunate, because you have a mama who loves cooking for you! I was a bit afraid at first that you just didn't like my cooking, but I tried jarred and that didn't thrill you either.
But don't worry my boy, mama will prevail! Today daddy and I took the day off work and caught up on chores (and lots of relaxing!) and I cooked for you. I made star pasta with ground chicken and veggies, curried lentils with veggies and brown rice pudding with raisins. Hopefully one, or all, of these dishes will tempt you! If not, that's ok too, I had fun making them.
Love always
